Great Ideas for Your Wedding!

I am always thrilled when I find something fun and new to do at a wedding, especially when it is a detail that brings even more meaning to an already wonderful occasion. Here are a couple of idea I ran across that are fabulous and have so much potential to work with so many weddings.

Jenny at Simcoe Street had a great idea for her wedding too!
Check out what she created for her wedding guest book table.
"What we did was get wedding photos of as many of our guests as we could - our aunts, uncles, great aunts and uncles, grandparents, parents and friends. Sometimes this meant calling the kids of our parents' friends and asking them to secretly scan and email us the pic. For a lot of them, our Moms had copies of pictures that we made copies of and used. Everyone was completely surprised by this, and it was fun to show weddings of all styles and decades and highlight the amazing tradition of weddings."
This idea is fun and what a great way to celebrate marriage!

Happily Ever After Sign

I created this chic sign that can be used at the wedding...how fabulous would it be hanging on a garden gate for the guests to see as they exit, at the end of the aisle, or even as part of the couple's dining table decor...so many possibilities!
The sign could absolutely be customized with the wedding colors, a wedding date or the couple's names too. Oh yeah...I think this sign turned out pretty cute...so why not add different vinyl lettering for any occasion!

Perfectly Pink and Green

PINK! PINK! PINK!
GREEN! GREEN! GREEN!
My two most favorite colors...E-V-E-R!
I am guessing it is because I NEVER had a pink room.
Yep, yellow Holly Hobbie it was for me!
I love color at weddings.
It evokes emotion and sets a tone.
Color doesn't have to be trendy...
you do not have to select what is
being touted in the magazines.
You do not have to settle.
Color reflects your style!
Choose what you like...
it is your wedding!

Anyway, I have been waiting for the right time to post this beautiful tablescape.
I worked on this tablescape with some other talented designers as part of a magazine shoot. I have been meaning to post it for awhile, but I never quite got around to it {surprise! surprise!}, until now! It is perfect for today...or any day!

So, what do ya think?
What are your wedding colors?

A Lot of Color! A Lot of Spice!

Back when I was in L.A., I was the Co-Director for
the Association of Bridal Consultants-Greater Los Angeles.
In that position I had the opportunity to work with
amazing people on a daily basis.
Each month we would host a mixer for event professionals.
The goal was networking, education and
to introduce new products and ideas.
The following photos are from one of our events
held at Veranda's in Manhattan beach, California.
For this event went went with a "hip Moroccan" theme
and used non traditional colors of fuchsia, lime, and orange.
There were beautiful linens, chairs, and locale provided,
but working with a florist we transformed
the event using common items that had
great impact on the eyes and not on the budget.

Hollowed artichokes and orange halves held votives.
This added a bit of whimsy and also a fun way
to display common wedding decor.
Glass hurricanes held pillar candles, but interest
was created by placing dried fruits and nuts in the base...
bought in bulk...this was very inexpensive.
We used the spices only on the cocktail tables,
so their aroma did not interfere with the meal.
 Spices were used freely!
Again, we bought spices in bulk
- look for whole, not ground, spices
such as coriander, anise, cinnamon sticks, bay leaves, etc.
Dates, figs, and other fruits also provided a
naturally fitting accent to the cocktail table decor.
The lanterns and other containers were all from Big Lots
and purchased at various times.
Only a few here and there matched, but the overall feel
of the containers was the same, so it worked.
The fabric draping is a combination of sheets bought on clearance, yardage of inexpensive fabric, and a print to bring it all to life. Extra large pillow forms were covered in cases made of sheets and loungers made of foam were placed throughout the garden.

Simple and inexpensive details using unexpected elements
were the key to this Hip Moroccan inspired soiree.

Happy Planning!

Lovebirds! Bridal Shower Inspiration

Today's absolutely amazing eye candy
is courtesy of Yvonne at StoneGable.
The theme is Lovebirds - perfection!
And Yvonne describes is as a
"...whimsical, vintage and organic feel.
Lots of natural elements.
A sort of Anthropology meets StoneGable."

It is one of the most delightful,
well-designed themes I have seen for a bridal shower.
Seriously it is so fantastic that I believe I stopped
my comment on the post to go to my email and
ask if I could post her idea here.
So, get ready...this is gorgeous!

Lovebirds
The decor consists of nest, twigs, sticks, moss,
and items from around the house, with shades of spring greens,
blue, aquas with accents of white and brown and fun pops of yellow.

Enjoy StoneGable's Lovebirds bridal shower!
I have nothing but love for this kind of party planning!
Love, love, love the detail of the nest in the chandelier!
The lunch table

 Details, details! Absolute perfection!
Even the utensils are displayed with flair!
The details are not lost in the food presentation...
notice the "salmon mousse"on the egg or
the arugula salad sitting in the nest.
Yvonne has the entire menu on her blog.
These cupcakes look almost too good to eat.
Check out Yvonne's tutorial for how to make these beauties!

A BIG thanks to Yvonne at StoneGable for letting
me share her beautiful bridal shower.
All photos in this post are courtesy of StoneGable.

Anyone have a favorite theme of a bridal shower or
wedding that they would like to share?

Happy Showers!

Fanciful Chandelier

I love pretty things...probably why I love weddings.
A couple of months ago, over at 504 Main,
I created a Birthday Chandelier for my hubby.
I had every intention of redoing this project into
a fantastical wedding decoration...
but alas time has gotten away from me...
and besides Christie at Pretty Paper Book took this idea
and made it so beautiful and magical,
I thought I would just share her beautiful creation with you.

Is that not G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S!?
Can you imagine how beautiful these chandeliers
would be hanging in trees from arbors...
anywhere at a wedding or wedding shower.

The original Birthday Chandelier.
If you visit this post there is a tutorial.
If you make one...please let me know...I'd love to share it!

Go visit Pretty Paper Book...she has amazing paper creations!

Illuminating Idea

It is all about the details.
Right, ladies?
It shows thought and attention to detail.
It also puts your personal stamp on the wedding.
And besides it is FUN!
I am always on the lookout for new and fun ways to make the "necessary" stand out and become a part of the overall look and style of a wedding. While visiting my bloggy friends the other day. I stopped at It's So Very Cheri  and she had a post about iLLUMIEnate...and I fell in L-O-V-E instantly. I hopped on over to the esty store and now I must share this with all of you!
Are you kidding me...how awesome is that!?
What an awesome proposal idea, eh?

Here's the perfect solution for your table number/name cards!  What a beautiful way to light up your reception tables and also illuminate the way for your guests to find their tables.  You've just found your wedding/event's table numbers and/or table decoration! These luminaries are made of quality vellum paper and can be designed specifically for you. They're unique, pretty, and useful as well!
Check out the sets...imagine the beauty of a cohesive and stylish look not only on your dining tables, but intertwined throughout your wedding venues...lining the aisle, at the bar, in the ladies room, on the guestbook table...the possibilities are endless.
So, rehearsal dinner, bridesmaids lunch, wedding shower
and beyond, these luminaries are FAB!
Not planning a wedding...
this are also fantastic for any occasion like birthdays,
anniversaries, grad parties, christenings, etc.

You can also visit my website at www.illumienate.com
Go now check it out...you will not be disappointed!
Happy Planning!

Design Inspiration...Bold Black and White

We all could use a little inspiration right?
Yes, I promised place cards and escort cards
as my next post (how exciting, right!), but
at 504 Main I posted these photos
and just had to do it here too!
We did this set up a couple of years ago
as part of a photo shoot, but...
I have this obsession with black and white right now,
I still LOVE this look, and it may provide
a little inspiration...so I just had to share!
Bold Black and White
Sit back and imagine yourself sipping martinis
and dancing to Frank Sinatra
with the California Coast as your backdrop.

Embrace the clean lines of a vintage-inspired, slightly art deco influenced design married to the striking contrast of black and white for a look that is unexpected.

Stunning and simple, an arrangement of Parrot Merlot
and white tulips, with a hint - here and there- of simple white carnations (I love carnations) is perfect in a simple glossy black vase.

Sleek black china "pops" on the polka dot linen -
a little whimsy...a little modern!

A gorgeous peacock feather adds sophistication and texture.

Sleek vintage-inspired flatware.

One sweet carnation hiding...

Hope you enjoyed the little bit of eye candy.
This is one of my favorite things about being a wedding planner!

Happy Planning!
Holly
